In-Home Dog Training in Charlotte, NC (And Nearby)

If it falls apart at your house, that’s where we train.

In-home dog training in Charlotte that meets the behavior exactly where it happens, and teaches you how to handle it once we leave. Real houses and apartments, real triggers, real results.

Good Behavior in a Classroom Is Easy. The Real Test Is Good Behavior at Home.

Take your dog to a classroom and they can look brilliant. Bring them home, and the old habits come back, because home is where the behavior was built.

They’re fine until the doorbell hits. Fine until a kid runs through the kitchen. Fine until another dog appears two houses down and the leash turns into a debate. You’ve read the tips and tried being “more consistent.” It holds for a quiet Sunday and dies on a Tuesday.

That’s not a stubborn dog. That’s a dog who learned what works in your house, on your sidewalk, with your people.

Dog Owner’s Academy has trained 5,000+ dogs in Charlotte since 2008. Nearly 20 years in, and the same thing still holds true: the behavior problem is almost never the actual problem. Environmental triggers and communication breakdowns are the problem. It’s why we come to your home. Real life, not a facility.

What In-Home Dog Training in Charlotte, NC Actually Is

Our trainers come to you: your home, your neighborhood, the places where the behavior already has a job. You’re in every session. Everything we teach your dog, we show you too. Owners say that part out loud after a few visits: they teach us owners a lot too.

This is private in-home dog training, not a group class with a stranger’s Labrador in the mix. Not a drop-off. You don’t commute across town and hope the problem shows up on cue. We train where it already shows up for free.

Train As You Live™ means the skill has to survive a regular Tuesday. Guests who will not follow your script. A package at the door. The greenway. A patio. Kids. A dog who can exist in the house you already have, without you managing every second of it.

We work in Charlotte, Matthews, Huntersville, Fort Mill, Pineville, Belmont, Tega Cay, and around Lake Norman. If that’s your zip, we can stand in your kitchen.

Your Dog Isn’t Running a Coup. They’re Running a System That Works.

Jumping looks like bad manners. Underneath it, you’ve got a dog who learned that launching is how you get a hello. Pulling isn’t spite. It’s efficient. Barking at the window is a job they gave themselves because nobody assigned a better one. And the “they know this, they just won’t do it” thing is usually a dog who learned that sit means sit on the third try.

We always work with the dog, never against it. If they’re exploding when someone walks in, that’s information. They’re trying to connect, or they’re worried, or the house has been answering in four different languages. We listen first. Then we give the household one language.

Humans do the thinking. Dogs live in the moment. Our trainers put those two things in the same room and make them usable.

If a specific behavior is the whole problem, start on our behavior problems hub. This page is the program. Those pages are the issues.

Who This Is for (And Who Should Look At Board and Train)

In-home is the most hands-on path we have. Best if you want to be in it from session one. Busy Charlotte families. People working from home with a dog who treats Zoom like an audience. Owners who don’t want to board, or can’t. Anyone whose dog is “pretty unmanageable” in the actual house, not in theory.

You still have a life. We build around it. The plan has to fit the calendar you already run, or it won’t survive the first week you get busy again.

If you need a lot of reps while you’re at work, or the dog needs a stretch of all-day practice in the real world before the handoff, that’s board and train. Different tool. Same philosophy.

Real Dogs. Real Owners. Real Results.

See what’s possible when dogs (and owners) get the right in-home, private training.

I’ve been working with Dog Owner’s academy and Amaya for two months now and I can already see the benefits in my dog. The confidence he’s built has really excelled him in training. I’m so grateful for Amaya’s help in making my dog a better family dog.

Awesome training for my doodle. He loved his trainer. Amya is great and she really focused on what was needed to get him ready to hangout at the stores and parks.

Dominic has been absolutely wonderful to work with. He is currently training both of my dogs—a four-month-old puppy and my two-year-old dog—and the difference has been remarkable. What I appreciate most is that he doesn’t just train the dogs; he teaches us how to communicate with them in a way they understand. He is patient, knowledgeable, and explains the “why” behind everything he does, which has given us so much more confidence at home. He has been fantastic at adapting his approach to each dog’s personality and stage of development. Our puppy is learning great habits from the beginning, while our older dog has made tremendous progress as well. The training is practical, positive, and easy to continue between sessions. If you’re looking for someone who genuinely cares about your dogs and wants to set both you and your pets up for long-term success, I can’t recommend Dominic highly enough. We are so grateful for everything he has done and look forward to continuing to work with him.

Amya is great with Riggs. He’s improved so much since working with her. She firm but so patient. We’ve grown as well it’s been a bit of a learning experience for us to practice consistency and patience. Thank you Amya

Amya, Dominic and Turk are all amazing with my puppy Suki and have helped elevate her obedience to a whole new level that I thought would take much longer to achieve with the methods I knew. Amya has been such a blessing during private and group lessons, even with her being an adolescent puppy, they have helped me with how to set boundaries with her and having her follow through with her obedience even in a high distraction environment. Amya has helped prove to me multiple times that she is a very intelligent obedient dog, especially when I have started to doubt if all of my work I've put into training with her is paying off.

Today our lesson Consisted of working with Cass at McDowell Park. I wanted to work on some off leash work. The issue with The off leash is me!! I get such anxiety when I drop the leash. today was about working on me and Cass Did great! He came when called. he slowed down when I tapped the Remote he even came back to me when I had to stop and take a break. Dominic is so calm and Patient with me. Cass is a really well trained dog now I just need to let him be a dog a little more. Thanks Dog Owners Academy! 06/09/26 So the above post was a few months ago. Today I met Dominic at Mcdowell park again. We were working in a few things this session. Recall and ad a sit. we hen more off leash with another dog distractions. Cass did wonderful. I am getting more secure with letting him go ahead of me in the trail and he is starting to check back in with me every 30-60 seconds. (without any correction) ! One of my biggest fears is loosing my dog. him just taking off and going. My other Fear was him taking off if I fell. Well today I tripped and fell and Cass was right there! He didn’t run after the other dog but that was a little further down the trail. He was right there to pick me up. (we will work on the getting me up at home ) Thanks Dom for helping me up! I am so Very Proud of Cass and So Happy to have amazing dog trainers! Dog Owners Academy is one of the best !

Looking for Private Dog Training Near Me? Our Trainers Come to You.

There’s no facility to drive to and no waiting room to sit in. We come to you. The only real decision is how hands-on you want to be along the way. Here are the three paths:

Private In-Home Training

  • The most hands-on path

Our trainers come to you. You’re in the sessions. You learn everything the dog learns. Best if you want to be in it from day one and want it tailored to your specific dog and your in-home lifestyle.

Jumpstart: In-Home + Board and Train

  • The best of both worlds

In-home lessons before and after, with a focused stretch of board and train in the middle (10 boarding days, then you stay in the loop). Our trainers handle the heavy reps. You get a real handoff, not a dog who only listens for someone else. One year of group lessons after. Details live on our board and train page.

Autopilot: Full Board and Train

  • Ideal for busy owners

Your dog lives the training with our team for 15 boarding days, then we walk you through it at home so it survives the first Tuesday back. Lifetime follow-up and group lessons. Also on our board and train page.

You don’t have to decide on a program in a browser. A free in-home consultation helps us match the dog, your schedule, and the life you want. Pricing, length, what’s included: that no-pressure conversation covers all of it.

We Aren’t Training the Goofy Out of Them

The worry we hear in the consult, almost every time: you’re going to get a robot back.

No. The dog who greets you like you invented the sun still greets you like that. What changes is the part that made you dread the walk, the door, the dinner guest. Structure around the personality. Not a swap.

Our trainers will tell you they like the weird dogs. Those are the interesting ones. You get yours back. You can just live with them.
